RBE No.184/1997: GDCE – Extension & widening of scope

Sub: Introduction of General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) for filling up 25% direct recruitment vacancies in certain Group ‘C’ categories.
Ref: Board’s letter of even number dated 20.08.1993 (RBE No.129/1993) and 12.09.1995 (RBE No.100/1995) and 01.03.1996 (RBE No.19/1996), 31.01.1997 (RBE No.21/1997) on the above subject.

1. The scheme of General Departmental Competitive Examination introduced vide Board’s letter of even number dated 20.08.1993 (RBE No.129/1993) was last extended upto 31.12.1997 vide their letter of even number dated 31.01.1997 (RBE No.21/1997) as an interim measure, pending feedback from the Railways.
2. While the feedback from some of the Railways is still awaited for review of the scheme Board has decided that the scheme may be extended further upto 31.12.1998 as an interim measure.
3. The Board have further decided that the technical categories like JE or II (TI/TT), JE Gr-II (Workshop), JE Gr-II (C&W) etc. in the Fifth Pay Commission scale of pay of Rs.5000-8000 not mentioned specifically in the Board’s letter of even number dated 11.06.1997 (RBE No.81/1997) read with their letter of 12.11.1997 (RBE No.158/1997) for recruitment to which the minimum qualification of Diploma in Engineering in the relevant discipline has been prescribed, may also be included in the scheme of GDCE.
