RBE No.81/1997: GDCE – Widening of scope

Sub: Scheme of General Departmental Competitive Examination for filling up 25% direct recruitment vacancies in certain Group ‘C’ categories – Widening of scope of.
1. In terms of this Ministries letter number dated 20.08.1993 (RBE No.129/1993) the scheme of General Departmental Competitive Examination (for short GDCE) was introduced to cover certain categories as mentioned in Para 2(i) thereof. The scheme at last extended vide this Ministry’s letter of even number dated 31.01.1997 (RBE No.21/1997) is current upto 31.12.1997.
2. The Ministry of Railways have considered the question of winding the scope of the scheme of GDCE in view of a number of Diploma holders occupying lower grade post and have decided that the following categories for recruitment to which the minimum qualification of Diploma in Engineering has been prescribed, may now be included in the scheme of GDCE:
(i) IOW, PWI and BRI in grade Rs.1400-2300 in Civil Engineering Department.
(ii) Chargeman in grade Rs.1400-2300 as Apprentice Mechanics in Mechanical and Electrical Department.
(iii) Signal Inspector and Telecommunication Inspector in grade Rs.1400-2300 in S&T Department.
(iv) Draftsman in grade Rs.1400-2300 in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and S&T Departments.
2.1 The staff falling in the Running categories will not be eligible to apply for the above categories under the GDCE Scheme.
3. The other conditions as indicated in this Ministry’s letter dated 20.08.1993 (RBE No.129/1993) will apply.
