Junior Engineer (Works): RBE No.93/2022 – Intermediate Apprentice Quota Eligibility Criteria

Sub: Eligibility criteria for filling up the vacancy of Junior Engineer (Works) against Intermediate Apprentice Quota – Clarification reg.

Ref: Railway Board’s letter (i) No.E(NG)I-2004/PM5/8, dated 28.06.2006 (RBE No.86/2006) 

(ii) E(NG)I-2008/PM1/15, dated 03.09.2009 (RBE No.161/2009).

1. Attention is invited to Para 3(ii) of Board’s letter No.E(NG)I-2004/PM5/8, dated 28.06.2006 (RBE No.86/2006) Vide which the following eligibility criteria was laid down for filling up the post of JE(works) against 15% Intermediate Apprentices Quota.

“15% by induction of Intermediate Apprentices from  amongst staff in skilled grades in Works Branch having the qualification of ITI/ Act Apprenticeship pass or 10+2 in Science Stream with three years service in skilled grades and upper age limit not exceeding 45 years”.

2. References have been received from some Zonal Railways and Federation (AIRF) that Artisan Helper (Works), Level-1 should also be made eligible for JE(Works) against 15% Intermediate Apprentices quota.

3. The matter has been considered in consultation with Civil Engineering Directorate and it has been decided that Artisan (Helper), level-1 working in Works Cadre having experience of three (3) years may also be made eligible for filling up the post of JE(Works) against 15% Intermediate Apprentices quota, provided they fulfill laid down educational qualification and other eligibility criteria for the post.

4. This also disposes off S.C. Railway’s letter No.SCR/PHQ/510/152/26/19/PNM/Sangh, dated 12.10.2021 on the above subject.
