RBE No. 15/2006: Quarters – Retention – New Zone Staff

Sub: Retention of Railway Accommodation at the previous place of posting in favour of officers/staff in new Zones.

On formation of the new Zones in the year 1997, officers/ staff posted to new Zones were granted permission for retention of Railway accommodation at the previous place of posting for a period of one year vide Board’s letter No.E(G)96 QR1-39, dated 06.01.1997 (RBE No. 06/1997). Thereafter, this permission was extended from time to time and was last extended up to 31.03.2001 vide Board’s letter No.E(G)97 QR1-28, dated 12.02.2001 (RBE No.33/2001). Retention of Railway accommodation beyond 31.03.2001 was governed in terms of extant orders as applicable in the case of permanent transfer vide Board’s letter No.E(G)97 QR1-28, dated 12.07.2001 (RBE No. 135/2001).
Subsequently, on operationalization of new Zones, Railway employees posted to new Zones/ Divisions were permitted retention of Railway accommodation at the previous place of posting for a period of one year from the date of relief in terms of Board’s letter No.E(G)97 QR1-28, dated 02.09.2002 (RBE No. 146/2002). This permission was extended from time to time and is currently up to 31.03.2006. Thus, no special dispensation existed for the Railway employees posted to new Zones/ Divisions during the period from 01.04.2001 to 01.09.2002.
The matter has been reviewed by the Board in their meeting held on 13.01.2006 and it has been decided that retention of Railway accommodation at the previous place of posting should be allowed to the Employees posted to new Zones/ Divisions during the period from 01.04.2001 to 01.09.2002 on the same terms and conditions as contained in Board’s letter No.E(G)96 QR1-39, dated 06.01.1997.
This issues with the concurrence of Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.
