Pension: RBE No.247/1988 – Nomination to Receive Commuted Pension
No.F(E)III/88/PN-1/28, dated 01.11.1988
Sub: Introduction of nomination system to receive the value of commuted pension where the pensioner dies without receiving the value.
Attention is invited to this Ministry’s letter No.F(E)III/85/PN-1/15, dated 18.08.1985 on the above subject, as per which a Railway servant while making application for commutation may also nominate one or more persons the right to receive the commuted value of the pension, in case the applicant dies without receiving the commuted value on or after the date on which the commutation becomes absolute. In the absence of nomination, the commuted value is payable to the heirs of the applicant.
Difficulties have been expressed that in the absence of nomination, the existing family pensioner is not able to draw the same and it entails hardship. The matter has been considered and it is clarified in continuation of this Ministry’s letter dated 18.08.1985 referred to above that in case there is no nomination or if the nomination made does not subsist, the commuted value shall be paid to the family in the manner as indicated in para 702(i) & (ii) of MRPR as amended from time to time.
In case the commuted value cannot be paid on the basis of nomination and as per Para 702(i) & (ii) of MRPR, the same shall be paid to heirs of the deceased applicant.
