Inspection Carriages: RBE No.100/1986 – Travel by Railway Officers in Saloons

Sub: Travel of Railway Officers by Inspection Carriages – Recording of Certificate on the T.A. Bills regarding travel of additional person in the Inspection Carriages.

1.     In terms of rule 257 (b) & (c) R-I, any person other than wife, children and bonafide railway servant travelling with a member of the Railway Board in his saloon is required to pay the usual fare to the railway by the purchase of first class ticket and in every bill for travelling allowance in respect of a journey performed in a saloon, the member has to specify the number of such persons who travelled with him and certify that necessary tickets were purchased by them.

2.     The Comptroller & Auditor General of India has pointed out that the above provision in rules may also be applied to railway officers while travelling in Railway Inspection Carriages/ Saloons. Department of Railways have carefully considered the matter and decided that the above provision should also apply to the railway officers while they travel in Inspection Carriages/ Saloons i.e. they have to certify in every T.A. Bill that a first class ticket was purchased for every non-Railway person excepting bonafide Railway servant and permitted members of family and mention the number of such persons who travelled with them.
