Sub: Payment of allowance in lieu of Kilometrage to the Running Staff – Definition of the term ‘Outstation’.

1.     As a result of discussions in the DC/OCM meetings, the Board have decided, in supersession of their letter, of even number dated 04.09.1985, that the term ‘Outstation’ for the purpose of payment of Allowance in lieu of Kilometrage in terms of Para 3.5 of Board’s letter No.E(P&A)II-80/RS-10, dated 17.07.1981, may, be construed as areas beyond 8 Kms. from the Headquarter station.

2.     Accordingly, when running staff are employed on non-running duties at any place within a radius of 8 kms. from their headquarter station, they will be paid the pay element of running allowance, namely, 30% of the basic pay applicable for the day. When such non-running duties are performed at places beyond 8 kms. from the headquarter station, they will be paid allowance in lieu of kilometrage at the rates specified in Board’s letter No.E(P&A)II-83/RS-4, dated 20.04.1983.

3.     This has the sanction of the President and issues with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate of the Department of Railways.
