5-Day Week: RBE No.143/1986 – Ministerial/ Accounts Staff in Workshops

No.E(LL)85/HER/1-15, dated 20.08.1986

Sub:     Observance of 5-day week by the Ministerial/ Accounts staff in workshops and field units.

A number of references have been received from the various Railways seeking clarification whether 5 day week should be observed by the Ministerial/ Accounts staff attached to Field Units/ Workshops etc.

It is clarified that since such staff have their working linked to the Field Units/ Workshops, they should continue to observe 6 days week.

It is also clarified that the Zonal training Schools and System Training Schools are not covered by Department of Railways order dated 24.05.1985 (RBE No.149/1985). If they have already switched over to 5-day week, they should revert back to their previous working hours.

Instances have come to the notice where 5-day week is being followed in such of the Railway establishments which are not covered under Department of Railways order quoted above. It is, therefore, desired that 5-day week in any of such establishments should not be introduced/ continued without obtaining specific approval of the Department of Railways.
