RBE No.89/1993: Surname in Service Record

No.E(NG)I-92/NM/1, dated 01.06.1993

Sub: Recording of surname of Group ‘D’ staff in service record.

1. In the JCM/DC meeting held on 21/22.01.1993, the staff side observed that in Engineering Department surname of Group ‘D’ staff in general and Gangman in particular are not recorded in the records of the Railways. In the absence of surname in the Railway records, it becomes difficult to verify the genuineness of the claim of the wards at the time of seeking compassionate appointment because in a school/ college certificate of ward, surname of both the ward and the father is mentioned while the service records do not indicate the same. The staff side demanded that the surname of all Group ‘D’ employees should invariably be recorded in service records along with the name to avoid such difficulties.
2. The matter has been considered in the light of discussion held and JCM/DC Meeting and it has been decided that full name of future Group ‘D’ entrants including their surname should be recorded in the service record. The existing Group ‘D’ employees who desire to add their surnames to their recorded names may apply for same as per the existing rules (Chapter-XII of IREM, 1989 Edition).
