RBE No.194/2019: Selection – Negative Marking in Departmental Examinations

Sub: 100% objective type paper for Departmental Examination – clarification regarding negative marking.

As the Railway administrations are aware, 100% Objective Type multiple choice question paper for all departmental examinations was introduced vide Board’s letter of even number dated 14.12.2018 (RBE No.196/2018). This was followed by clarificatory instructions on the subject issued vide letter of even number dated 14.06.2019 (RBE No.97/2019), 01.08.2019 (RBE No.122/2019), 21.08.2019 (RBE No.139/2019) and 09.09.2019 (RBE No.149/2019).
Representations have been received from some quarters including AIRF for doing away with negative marking in the Departmental Examinations.
The matter has been examined in Board’s office and it has been decided as under:-

(a) There will be no negative marking in selection against departmental quota where panel is arranged in the order of seniority from those qualified.
(b) There will be negative marking @ 1/3 mark for a wrong answer for all selections, including LDCE where panel is arranged in the order of merit from those qualified.
(c) Negative marking to continue for GDCE as for RRB examinations.
(d) Selections conducted otherwise need not be reopened.
