Sub: Age stipulation for direct recruitment of First Firemen/ Diesel/ Elec. Assistants in scale Rs.950-1500 through Railway Recruitment Boards.                                           

In terms of para 131 and 132 of IREM, 1968 edition in Sub-Section III of Section-B thereof, the age limits for recruitment of Apprentice First Firemen for appointment as First Firemen Grade ‘A’ and Assistant Electric Drivers were given as 16-20 years and 17-21 years respectively. No age limit for direct recruitment of Diesel Asstts. was given as at that time there was no provision for direct recruitment of Diesel Assistants. However, in terms of paras 136, 137 and 138 of IREM Volume-I, 1989 Edition which deal with direct recruitment of First Firemen, Diesel Assistant  Elec. Assistant, the age limit in case of First Firemen has been specified as 16-20 years but no age limit has been fixed in case of Diesel Assistant/ Elec. Assistant. It is seen that the Railway Recruitment Boards are following different age limits for direct recruitment to the posts of Diesel/ Elec. Assistants.

Railway Board, after reconsideration of the matter, have decided that the age limit for direct recruitment of First Firemen/ Diesel Assistant/ Electric Assistant will henceforth be uniformly 18 to 25 years. For the recruitment wherever already initiated, the age limits followed by the respective Railways/ Railway Recruitment Boards will apply in terms of the Notifications issued for the purpose.
