RBE No. 170/2009: Posting of Husband and Wife

Sub: Posting of husband and wife at the same station – Instruction in respect of Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ Railway employees.

1. Detailed instructions regarding posting of husband and wife at the same station, issued pursuant to recommendations of the Fifth Central Pay Commission are contained in this Ministry’s letter No.E(NG)I-97/TR/28, dated 05.11.1997 (RBE No. 147/1997). One of the provisions incorporated in this letter viz. 05.11.1997 (RBE No. 147/1997) is that a separate register may be maintained at each Divisional and Zonal Headquarters of the Railways for registering requests for transfer from railway servants for posting at the place of posting of their spouses, which may be reviewed from time to time. These instructions were again reiterated vide Board’s letter No.E(NG)I-2005/TR/7, dated 10.05.2005 (RBE No. 80/2005).
2. It has however, come to notice that Ministry of Railway’s above directives to keep husband and wife at the same station are not being followed in the Railways at the Divisional/ Zonal Headquarters. It is therefore, desired that extant instructions on the subject as referred to in the preceding para may be followed scrupulously.
