RBE No. 116/2008: Special Compensatory (Scheduled/Tribal Area) Allowance

Sub: Special Compensatory (Scheduled/Tribal Area) Allowance – Recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission – Revision of rates.

1. Consequent upon the decisions taken by the Government on the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission related to the above mentioned allowance, the President is pleased to decide that in modification of Board’s letter No.PC-IV/87/Imp./AL-1, dated 30.07.1987 as amended from time to time read with letter No.F(E)I/98/AL-4/5, dated 02.09.1998 (RBE No. 197/1998) & 05.11.1998 (RBE No. 253/1998) and F(E)I/2005/AL-4/5, dated 21.02.2006 (RBE No. 19/2006), Special Compensatory (Scheduled/Tribal Area) Allowance to the Railway employees shall be admissible at the following rates:-

Grade Pay

Rate per month (Rs.)

Employees drawing grade pay of Rs.5400 and above and pay scale of HAG+ and above

For posts in the grade pay of less than Rs.5400

2.     In case of those employees who opt to retain the pre-revised scale of pay, the corresponding Grade Pay of the pay scale/ corresponding pay scale of the post occupied on 01.01.2006, as indicated in Railway Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2008 would determine the allowance under these orders.

3.     All other terms and conditions governing the grant of Special Compensatory (Scheduled/Tribal Area) Allowance shall continue to be applicable.

4.     These orders shall take effect from September 1, 2008.

5.     The rates of this allowance shall automatically increase by 25%, whenever the Dearness Allowance payable on the revised pay structure goes up by 50%.

6.     In places where more than one Special Compensatory Allowance is admissible, the Railway employees posted in such stations will have the option to choose the allowance which benefits them the most.
