Promotion: RBE No.236/1990 – To ‘Non-selection’ posts – Introduction of Objective Type Questions
No.E(NG)I/90/PM1/36, dated 19.12.1990
Sub: Introduction of objective type questions for suitability test (written) for promotion to ‘Non-selection’ posts.
1. The All India Railwaymen’s Federation have raised a demand in the PNM at the Board’s level that the instructions contained in Board’s letter No.E(NG)I/83/PM1/65 (PNM/NFIR), dated 17.04.1984 regarding setting of objective type of questions in the written test, wherever held as part of selection, should also be made applicable mutatis-mutandis to the written test held for promotion to the higher grade ‘Non-selection’ posts where suitability of the candidates is being adjudged by holding the written test.
2. The matter has been considered by the Board and it has been decided that wherever a written test is held for promotion to the highest grade ‘Non-selection’ post in a category, objective type questions may be set for about 50% (fifty percent) of the total marks for the written test. The remaining questions could continue to be of the conventional (narrative) type. The figure of 50% for objective type questions is intended to be for guidance only and should not be taken as constituting an inflexible percentage.
3. Please acknowledge receipt.
