Overtime Allowance to Supervisory Staff

Sub: Grant of Overtime Allowance to supervisors.
Ref: Western Railways letter No.E/HER/487/WRMS/45(L), dated 28.11.2018.

1. The matter has been examined. Classification of Supervisors under Statutory rules i.e. “Railway Services (Hours of Work and Period of Rest) Rules, 2005” is based on pay grade/ designation of post. The Railway’s attention is drawn to Proviso to Rule 5 of the said Rules. The proviso states that the Railway servants, who on the date of publication of these Rules, are treated as “Supervisory Staff” shall continue to be treated as such until the orders specifying the Railway servants or classes of Railway servants as “Supervisory Staff” are issued under this sub-rule. No change has been carried out in the list of “Supervisory Staff” circulated vide Board’s letter No.E(LL)70/HER/16, dated 04.01.1972 and therefore, subsequent to promulgation of Railway Servants (Hours of Work and Period of Rest) Rules, 2005, this list of “Supervisory” Staff still hold good.
2. In view of the above, the Railway’s proposal to grant Overtime Allowance to Supervisory Staff working in shift duties and performing extra hours than prescribed in “Continuous” Roster is not tenable.
