IREM Rule No.168-A: SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT – IREM Vol-I, Chapter-I, Section-B, Sub-section-III: Recruitment and Training

(XIA) PSYCHO-TECHNICAL STAFF:

(i) SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT

168(A) (1)      Posts in the category of Scientific Assistant in the pay scale of Rs.5500-9000 will be filled 100% by direct recruitment through Railway Recruitment Boards (Written Test followed by an Interview).  

(2)  The Qualifications for direct recruitment to the post of scientific Assistant shall be as under:-

(i) Essential:- Masters Degree in Psychology with 50% marks in aggregate.

(ii) Desirable:-

(a) Specialization in Industrial/ Organisational/ Clinical Psychology;

(b) Experience in organizing counselling/ guidance programmes;

(c) Working knowledge of Computers.

(iii) Age limit:- Between 21 and 35 years.

(3)  Channel of Promotion/ Higher Grade:- The following higher grade posts are available to this category in the normal channel of promotion.

Scientific Supervisor, Grade-II (Rs.6500-10500)

By non-selection

Scientific Supervisor, Grade-I (Rs.7450-11500)

By non-selection

(4)  (i) Vacancies in the next higher grade of Scientific Supervisor, Grade-II in the scale Rs.6500-10500 will be filled up entirely by promotion (non-selection) from amongst the eligible serving Scientific Assistants in the pay scale of Rs.5500-9000 having rendered 05 (five) years’ regular service in the grade. 

(ii) 50% by promotion of CMA in Level-6, out of which 33% will be filled through LDCE from serving employees having the following educational qualifications:-

(i) Bachelors Degree in Science with Physics and Chemistry with minimum of 45% marks.                 

                                                                   OR

(ii) B.Tech in Metallurgical/ Chemical Engineering or an M.Sc. degree in Chemistry/ Applied Chemistry.

The remaining 17% will be filled from the serving employees in the grade of CMA on the basis of seniority cum suitability.

(5)  (I) Vacancies in the next higher grade of Scientific Supervisor, Grade-I in the Scale  Rs.7450-11500 will be filled up entirely by promotion (non-selection) from amongst the eligible serving Scientific Supervisors, Grade-II in the  scale of Rs.6500-10500 having rendered 08 (eight) year’s regular service in the grade.

Note:- In the absence of availability of suitable candidates, vacant posts in higher grades should also be taken in account for recruitment to lower grade(s) and operated as such till such time the incumbent become eligible for promotion.
