Gatemen: RBE No.122/1985 – Panel of Gangmen

Sub:   Panel for Gangmen to work as Gatemen against Casual Vacancies.

1.     In his report on collision between 382 Dn. Azimganj-Andol Passenger with a cement loaded Private Truck at level crossing No.11/C between Sainthia and Kunuri stations on Sainthia-Andal non-electrified B.G. section of Asansol Division of Eastern Railway on 26.10.1984, the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Eastern Circle, Calcutta, has recommended that in each gang there should be panel of gangmen fit in appropriate medical category from amongst whom only gangmen should be deputed to perform gateman’s duty in the event of Casualty/ Sickness/ Absence of regular gatemen.

2.     The Ministry have considered this recommendation. They desire that consistent with the extant orders regarding manning of posts of gangmen, gatemen, chowkidars, etc., a regular list of gangmen in each gang fit in the appropriate medical category should be maintained by each PWI. Gangmen out of this list only should be utilised as gateman against casual vacancies like short-term absence, sickness, etc., of the regular incumbent.
