Awards: RBE No.133/1986 – System of Giving Awards to Good Workers

Sub: Further intensifying the system of giving awards to good workers and to make the awards suitably attractive.
The policy of recognizing the services of Railway employees for their outstanding performance on the Railways is already in vogue since long. For this purpose a number of schemes have been introduced from time to time in the various fields of Railway working. The General Managers have also been delegated powers to the grant of rewards to Railway employees (upto Senior Scale) to the extent of Rs.2000 in each case. Awards for meritorious services have also been extended to Officers upto the level of HODs and recommendations made by the General Managers for such awards from JA grade officers and above are considered by the Department of Railways so as to facilitate such awards being granted at the Central function to be organized under the auspices of the Board.
The Railway employees are also eligible for consideration for awards under the ‘Prime Minister’s Shram Awards’ Scheme introduced from Independence Day last year for Awards to workmen in recognition of their outstanding contribution towards the production and for showing exemplary zeal and enthusiasm in their duties. The details of the scheme and guidelines have already been circulated. Deserving cases after proper screening and with the personal approval of the General Manager should be sponsored every year.
Further, during a recent discussion between the Chairman, Railway Board, and the Hon’ble Minister of Transport, the following observations have been made:
“A system of giving awards already exists during the Railway Week and other occasions and also a scheme of ‘Man of the Month’ award in most of the Railways. The system of giving awards to good workers may be further intensified and the awards may be made suitably attractive.”
In view of the above observations made by the Hon’ble Minister of Transport, the Department of Railways desire that the system of giving awards to good workers may be intensified with a view to make the awards suitably attractive.
Special awards given for meritorious service may please be reported to the Board in your PCDOs from time to time.
