Age Limit: RBE No.15/1991 – Group ‘D’ to Workshop Against 40% Quota

No.E(NG)I/89/CFP/21, dated 06.02.1991

Sub: Age limit for induction of Group ‘D’ staff of other departments in Workshop cadre against 40% quota.

1. In terms of the extant instructions as contained in Board’s letter No.E(NG)II/73/CL/41, dated 23.08.1973, 40% of the vacancies in Group ‘D’ in Mech. Workshops should be filled from amongst volunteers from other Departments who may like to come to the workshop cadre on bottom seniority. While no age limit for such an induction was laid down by the Board, it was represented by the Staff Side in the Departmental Council under the JCM Scheme that on South Central Railway, the age limit of 28 years is being imposed. It also came to the notice of the Board that different Railways are following different age restrictions for induction of employees against this quota.

The matter has been considered in the light of the deliberations in the JCM/DC meetings and it has been decided that the staff of other departments who are inducted in workshop cadres against the 40% quota on bottom seniority, should not be more than 31 years of age, considering the need for being sufficiently young to acquire a new skill.
