RBE No. 57/2006: Apprentices – Course Completed Act Apprentices – Engagement as Substitutes in Group ‘D’

Sub: Engagement of Course Completed Act Apprentices as Substitutes in Group ‘D’ category on the Railways one-time relaxation in upper age limit – regarding.

Attention is invited to instructions contained in Board’s letter No.E(MPP)2002/12/26/Vol-II, dated 21.06.2004 (RBE No. 136/2004) wherein clarification was issued that Course Completed Act Apprentices can be engaged as Substitute in Group ‘D’ under GM’s powers in administrative exigencies subject to their fulfillment of the extant instructions prescribed for such engagements.
Further, in terms of instructions contained in Board’s letter No.E(NG)-II/87/RC-2/25, dated 30.03.1990 (RBE No. 62/1990) relaxation in upper age limited to the extent of the period spent of apprenticeship is permitted to Course Completed Act Apprentices in recruitment of filling up vacancies in Group ‘D’ posts.
The issue of granting relaxation in upper age limit to such Course Completed Act Apprentices who have become over-age for engagement as Substitute in Group ‘D’ category has been under consideration of this Ministry. In the JCM/DC meeting held during April, 2006, it has, therefore, been decided that in respect of all Course Completed Act Apprentices being taken as Substitute Group ‘D’, the upper age will be 38 years (plus period of Apprenticeship) for General, SC/ST & OBC candidates, as a one-time exception till 03.02.2007.
