Sub: Allotment of quarters.

Various categories of railway employees are classified into essential and nonessential according to local requirements and need of the Railway Administration, etc. and a large percentage of railway quarters are earmarked for essential staff and officers for operational and functional reasons.
The Ministry of Transport, Department of Railways desire that allotment of quarters to the non-essential Railway servants over and above the quota fixed for them should be discouraged and that the quarters earmarked for essential categories should be given only to the essential Railway servants after a review by Railway Administration of the criteria for allotment between essential and non-essential categories of Railway servants. A feedback about action taken in this regard, and the criteria adopted by your administration and an up to date list of categories of Railway servants classified as essential for purpose of allotment of railway quarters on your Railway organization may please be sent to this Ministry latest by 25.11.1985 positively.

    Allotment of Rlwy quarters to station staff is whether on service seniority basis or on the basis of date of joining on station.kindly clarify.
