Sub: Creation of posts of Stenographers in Non-secretariat Organisations in the grade of Rs.550-900.

Ref: Railway Ministry’s letter No.PCIII/78 PS-3/5, dated 28.07.1978 and 29.05.1979.

1.   The question of issuing general instructions to the Railways that the posts of Stenographers should be automatically upgraded to proper scales wherever posts of Officers are upgraded has been under consideration of the Ministry of Railways for sometime past. This also came up for consideration in the Departmental Council Meeting of the Joint Consultative Machinery.

2.   It has now been decided that the posts of Stenographers may be up-graded to appropriate scales wherever the posts of Officers are upgraded and the sanction issued under General Manager’s own powers. The Railway Administration should, however, ensure that the total cadre strength of the Stenographers is not exceeded and the posts are downgraded as and when the posts of Officers are down-graded.
