Road Mileage Allowance: RBE No.28/1993 – Journeys between Residence & Railway Stations

Sub:   Payment of Road Mileage Allowance for journeys on duty between Residence/ HQs and the Railway Stations – Railway servants provided with free Residential Card Passes/ Monthly Season Tickets.

In exercise of the powers conferred on the President in terms of proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to hereby direct that Indian Railways Establishment Code Vol.II (Sixth Edition 1987) may be amended as per Advance Correction Slip No.23 enclosed.

(1) The following may be incorporated as Government of India’s Decision No.5 below Government of India’s Decision No.4 under Rule 1608 – R.II (1987 Edition): 

“(5) Road Mileage Allowance in terms of Government of India’s Decision No.(4) above will be admissible only if the amount is actually spent by the Railway servant while performing journey on duty. Railway servants who are given Free Residential Card Passes/ Monthly Season Tickets/ Railway Passes to perform the journey from their residence to their headquarters station, will not be entitled to any Road Mileage Allowance when they perform a journey on duty on the Free Residential Card Pass/ Monthly Season Ticket/ Railway Pass etc. They will, however, be eligible for the Daily Allowance as admissible under the Rules.

(2) The existing Government of India’s Decision No.(5) below Rule 1608-R.II (1987 Edition) may be re-numbered as Government of India’s Decision No.(6).
