Reserved Tickets – Booking Through UPI/ BHIM App – Discount

Sub: Provision of 5% discount on the total value of basic fare of PRS (reserved) counter tickets on booking of reserved counter through UPI (Unified Payment Interface) including BHIM application.
Ref: Commercial Circular No.75/2017 dated 17.11.2017.

In reference of above, Ministry of Railways have decided that 5% discount shall be granted on the total value of the basic fare of tickets subject to maximum discount of Rs.50 in PRS reserved counter tickets if ticket is booked through UPI including BHIM application on the following terms and conditions:-

1. Such discount shall be applicable only on reserved tickets booked across the reservation/ booking counters when booked through UPI including BHIM application.
2. Discount shall be applicable on tickets whose total value of basic fare of a ticket shall be Rs.100 and above. However, maximum discount on a ticket shall not be more than Rs.50.
3. No such discounts shall be applicable on unreserved single journey tickets/ season tickets, reserved tickets booked online (e-tickets/ I-tickets) etc.
However, 0.5% discount on total fare which is already applicable on booking of season tickets (suburban section) through digital means including UPI (BHIM) application shall continue as per instructions issued from time to time.
4. Such discount shall be applicable only across the reservation counter upto the preparation of first reservation chart. After preparation of first chat no such discount shall be applicable.
However, 10% rebate in the basic fare on the vacant berth/ seats after preparation of first chat shall continue as per instructions issued from time to time in this regard.
5. The above shall be implemented with effect from 20.03.2018 on experimental bases for three months.
6. Accounts Directorate of Railway Board shall make accountal of the discounted amount and shall approach Ministry of Finance for compensating this loss of Railway.
7. CRIS shall ensure necessary changes in the software and arrangements for the above.
8. The receipt of this letter may be in acknowledged. Also please check these instructions on the Indian Railways website – www.indianrailways.gov.in under the head Commercial Circulars.
9. Necessary instructions should be issued to all concerned for effective implementation of the above scheme.
