RBE No.96/1999: GDCE – Elimination of viva-voce

Sub: Elimination of viva-voce (interview) in selection under the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE).
1. In terms of Board’s instructions contained in this Ministry’s letter No.99/E(RRB)/25/2, dated 18.03.1999 (RBE No.56/1999), viva-voce test (interviews) in recruitment through RRB has been eliminated in most of the categories in order to reduce the element of subjectivity to the maximum extent possible and to expedite the selection process.
2. The question of elimination of viva-voce test (interview) in selections held under the scheme of General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) under which 25% of the net direct recruitment vacancies in specified categories are required to be filled on RRB pattern from among regular serving employees fulfilling qualifications prerequisite for recruitment has been considered by the Ministry of Railways. It has been decided that in partial modification of instructions contained in this Ministry’s letter No.E(NG)I-92/PM 2/16, dated 20.08.1993 (RBE No.129/1993) the practice of holding viva-voce as part of selections under the scheme of GDCE for categories covered under the scheme should be discontinued with immediate effect.
