Sub: Recruitment Rules for direct recruitment to the category of Depot Material Superintendent, Grade-I (DMS-I) in the pay scale of Rs.6500-10500.
1. In terms of para 11(iii) of this Ministry’s letter No.PC-III/2003/CRC/6, dated 09.10.2003 (RBE No. 177/2003), an element of direct recruitment to the extent of 20% of the posts in the category of Depot Material Superintendent, Grade-I in the pay scale of Rs.6500-10500 has been introduced.
2. Pursuant to the same, Board have decided that for direct recruitment to the post of DMS-I in the pay scale of Rs.6500-10500, following conditions shall be adhered to:-
Depot Material Superintendent Grade-I, Scale of Rs.6500-10500:-
(i) 20% of the posts in grade Rs.6500-10500 in the category of Depot Material Superintendent should be filled by direct recruitment and remaining 80% of the posts shall continue to be filled by promotion from amongst eligible serving DMS-II in the scale Rs.5500-9000 as per procedure in force.
(ii) Qualification for direct recruitment shall be as under:-
Degree in Engineering in any discipline.
(iii) Age limit: Between 18-30 years.
3. Indian Railway Establishment Manual, Volume-I (1989 Edition) may be amended as per Advance Correction Slip (ACS) No.185 enclosed.

Chapter-I, Section ‘B’, Sub-section III, Recruitment & Training:
Add the following as new para below para 157(3) of the IREM, Vol.I (1989 Edition) with the caption as indicated below:-
(ii) Depot Materials Superintendent Grade-I:-
(4) The vacancies in the grade of Depot Material Superintendent Grade-I, in scale Rs.6500-10500 will be filled up as under:
(i) 20% by direct recruitment through Railway Recruitment Boards; and
(ii) 80% by promotion from amongst eligible serving DMS-II in the scale Rs.5500-9000 as per procedure in force.
(5) The qualification for direct recruitment to the post of Depot Material Superintendent Grade-I, in the pay scale of Rs.6500-10500 shall be as under:-
(i) Qualification: Degree in Engineering in any discipline.
(ii) Age limit: Between 18-30 years.
(6) Channel of promotion/ Higher grade: The following higher grade posts are available to this category in the normal channel of promotion:-
