RBE No. 33/2007: Cadre – Review in Coach Maintenance Depots

No.E(G)2003 EC2-3, dated 06.03.2007

Sub: Review of cadre in Coach Maintenance Depots – Workshop on “Safety on IR”.

Instructions were issued vide Railway Board’s letter of even number dated 31.10.2003 (RBE No. 189/2003) to the effect that posts required for maintenance of rakes in coaching complexes in the context of introduction of new trains (year 2003-04 and onwards) should be created on the lines as done for the crews by way of periodic review to the extent this involves introduction/ induction of coaches in new trains. This was to ensure that required number of staff is made available on time to facilitate the desired level of maintenance and safety. Detailed guidelines for such creation have also been laid down in the said instructions.

It has come to the notice of Railway Board that the instructions dated 31.10.2003 (RBE No. 189/2003) are not being adequately implemented on the Railway units leading to inadequacy of manpower in Coaching Depots. The contents of Railway Board’s instructions contained in letter No.E(G)2003 EC2-3, dated 31.10.2003 (RBE No. 189/2003) are, therefore, reiterated for strict compliance.
