RBE No. 26/2003: Appointment on Compassionate Grounds – In Workshops

No.E(NG)II/99/RC-1/Genl./13, dated 05.02.2003
(SC No.55 to MC No.16)

Sub: Appointment on Compassionate Grounds in workshops controlled by Mechanical Directorate.

Attention is invited to this Ministry’s letter of even number dated 06.09.1999 (RBE No. 226/1999), wherein, the Railways were advised that compassionate appointments in workshops controlled by Mechanical Department should be restricted to the wards/ widows of the employees of that workshop only.
Pursuant to demand tabled by the staff side in the DC/JCM Meeting (No.24/2003) stating that instructions issued vide letter referred to above are not being implemented with the result that workshop’s list of compassionate appointments is still being directed to the Divisions where there is a long list of compassionate appointments already pending. Apart from causing difficulties to the wards of deceased employees this is also resulting in non-filling up of vacancies in the workshop.
The matter has been re-considered by the Board and it has been decided that instructions contained in Board’s letter of even number dated 06.09.1999 (RBE No. 226/1999), may strictly be adhered to. Further, wards/ widows of deceased employee of the Divisions/ Headquarters should not be appointed in the workshops. However, wherever possible, wards/ widows of deceased workshop employees may be accommodated on the Division/ Headquarters.
