RBE No. 255/1987: Inter-mediate Mechanics – Change in Syllabus

Sub: Syllabus for Inter-mediate Mechanics and Apprentice TXRs – simplification.

The All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) have made a demand in the PNM at the Board’s level for simplification of the existing syllabus for inter-mediate apprentice Mechanics and TXRs drawn from amongst rankers. The matter has been considered by the Board. In the light of discussions in PNM meeting with AIRF on 27 August 1987, it has been decided that the following changes may be made in the syllabus circulated under this Ministry’s letter No.E(NG)I-78 PM1/293, dated 09.07.1979.

(I) The following items may be deleted from the syllabus:-

Pairs, Chains, Mechanisms, Machines, Constraints, degree of freedom, Grubers Criterian – Mechanism & inversion of links mechanisms, slider crank quick return mechanism.

Steam Engine Valves and Valve diagram.

Industrial Chemistry

Fourth Session (6)

Internal treatment of boiler water, boiler scales, deposits and their effect on the boiler, wet steam.

(II) The following items may be added to the syllabus:-

(i) Simple Mechanisms

(ii) Water Treatment

(iii) Introduction of CPM, PERT, Computers and other modern techniques.

2. Necessary adjustment in the duration of sessions prescribed in the syllabus may be made wherever required having regard to the changes in the syllabus as indicated above.
