RBE No. 196/1992: Allowance – Kilometrage & ALK – Loco Inspectors

Sub: Amendment to Indian Railway Establishment Code, Volume II (Sixth Edition – 1987).

In exercise of powers conferred by proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to direct that below Rule 1514 introduced vide Advance Correction Slip No.21, in Section III, Chapter 15 of Indian Railway Establishment Code, Volume II (Sixth Edition – 1987), Rule 1515 be incorporated as in the Advance Correction Slip No.22 enclosed herewith.
This amendment will be effective from 01.01.1993.

Rule – 1515: Types of Allowances
(1) The Loco Inspectors shall be paid:

(a) A kilometrage allowance for actual kilometrage travelled on foot plate while employed on footplate duties indicated in Rule 1514 above. Kilometrage allowance shall be paid at the rate specified from time to time for these categories of staff.
(b) An Allowance in Lieu of Kilometrage (ALK) at the rate 160 kilometres per day while employed on other than foot plate outside their Headquarters beyond a radius of 8 kilometres.
(c) Where the Loco Inspector are deployed for footplate duties indicated in rule 1514 for part of the day and for other than footplate duties in the moving trains or at outstation for the remaining part of the day, the payment of kilometrage allowance shall be made either in terms of (a) or (b) above, whichever is higher.

(2) No other special allowance shall be admissible unless specifically sanctioned by the railway board.
