RBE No. 129/1997: Appointment on Compassionate Grounds – Widows – Posting in P/Way Gangs

Sub: Appointment of women in the Permanent Way Gangs on compassionate grounds.

1. Attention is invited to the instructions contained in Board’s letter No.E(NG)II/86/RC-1/1 Policy, dated 25.03.1986 (RBE No. 66/1986) reserving certain posts in Group ‘D’ exclusively for compassionate appointments of widows.
2. It has come to the notice of Board that on the Railways widows are also being considered for compassionate appointment to Group ‘D’ posts in the Permanent Way Gangs.
2.1 The matter was discussed in the Chief Engineer’s conference held in March, 97 and it has been decided by the Board that woman appointed in Permanent Way Gangs, are posted only in the Gangs that are located within the station limits or in the yards.
3. It has also been decided that at the Divisional level, the papers for appointments of Women in Permanent Way Gangs are put up to the competent authority for approval through Senior Divisional Engineer (Coordination) of the Division, who will ensure that there are only a limited number of women in each Gang, and also that it should be made clear to the women posted in the Gangs that they would have to do the normal Gang work.
