Sub: Amendment to IREM Volume-I.
In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution, the President is pleased to direct that the Indian Railway Establishment Manual, Vol-I, Revised Edition 1989 (First Reprint Edition 2009), may be amended as in the Advance Correction Slip No.266 enclosed.

Chapter-II, Section-A: Rules governing promotion of Group ‘C’ staff to Group ‘B’ posts:-
1. Para 204.1:-
For the exiting para 204.1 substitute the following:-
The selection is based on a written test to adjudge the professional ability, viva-voce and assessment of record of service by the Selection Committee.
(i) Selection procedure for Accounts Department:-
The distribution of marks will be as under:-

(ii) Selection procedure against 70% quota in Organized services other than Accounts Department and 100% Selections in Miscellaneous Cadres:-
The written examination shall comprise of one paper which shall have 100% Objective type Multiple Choice Questions only. The paper will be of 100 marks and distribution of marks will be as under:-

2. Para 204.3:-
For the existing para 204.3 substitute the following:-
“Ten percent of the 100 marks prescribed for written examination held as part of the Selection should be set apart for questions on official language policy and official language rules. While the employees should be encouraged to attempt the questions on official language policy and official language rules, the questions should not be compulsory.”
