1703. House Rent Allowance (HRA):-
The rates of House Rent Allowance which may be granted with effect from 01.08.1997 to Railway servants stationed in A-1, A, B-1, B-2, C class and unclassified cities are given below:-

House Rent Allowance at the above rates shall be admissible to all Railway servants (other than those provided with Government owned/hired accommodation) without reference to the quantum of rent paid, without requiring them to produce any rent receipts. Such railway servants shall, however, be required to furnish a certificate that they are incurring some expenditure on rent / contributing towards rent. House Rent Allowance at the above rates shall also be admissible to Railway servants living in their own houses subject to their furnishing a certificate that they are paying/ contributing towards house or property tax or maintenance of the house.
Note: Where House Rent Allowance has been allowed under special orders, the same shall be given as admissible in A-1, A, B-1, and B-2 cities, as the case may be, until issue of orders to the contrary.

No.E(P&A)II-2017/HRA-7 Date 19.07.2017 Sub: Decision of the Government on the recommendations of the Seventh Central Pay Commission relating to grant of House Rent Allowance (HRA) to Railway employees. 1. Consequent upon the decision taken by the Government on the recommendations of the Seventh Central Pay Commission relating to House Rent Allowance (HRA), the President is pleased to decide that, in modification of Railway Board’s letter No.PC-65/HRA-1/3 dated 21.7.1965 as amended from time to time, letter No.E(P&A)II-2008/HRA-10 dated 12.09.2008 and letter No.E(P&A)II-2015IHRA-7 dated 24.09.2015, the admissibility of HRA shall be as under;
2. The rates of HRA will not be less than Rs.5400, Rs.3600 and Rs.1800 at ‘X’, ‘Y’ & ‘Z’ class cities respectively. 3. The rates of HRA will be revised to 27%, 18% and 9% for ‘X’, ‘Y’ and ‘Z’ class cities respectively when Dearness Allowance (DA) crosses 25% and further revised to 30%, 20% and 10% when DA crosses 50%. 4. The term basic pay in the revised pay structure means the pay drawn in the prescribed pay levels in the Pay Matrix and does not include Non-Practicing Allowance (NP A) etc. or any other type of pay like special pay, etc. 5. In the case of running staff HRA will continue to be calculated on the basic pay plus 30% pay element till further orders. 6. The list of cities classified as ‘X’, ‘Y’ and ‘Z’ issued vide Board’s letter No. E(P&A)II-2015/HRA-7 dated 24.09.2015, for the purpose of grant of House Rent Allowance is enclosed as Annexure to these orders. 7. Special orders on continuance of HRA at Delhi (‘X’ class city) rates to railway employees posted at Faridabad, Ghaziabad, NOIDA and Gurgaon, at Jalandhar (‘Y’ class city) rates to Jalandhar Cantt., at ‘Y’ class city rates to Shillong, Goa & Port Blair and HRA at par with Chandigarh (‘ Y’ class city) to Panchkula which have been allowed to continue vide Para 4 of this Ministry’s letter No.E(P&A)II-2015/HRA-7 dated 24.09.2015 and S.A.S Nagar (Mohali) at par with Chandigarh (‘Y’ class city) vide Ministry’s letter No.E(P&A)II-2015/HRA-7 dated 12.05.2017, shall continue till further orders. 8. All other conditions governing grant of HRA under existing orders shall continue to apply. 9. These order shall be effective from 1st July, 2017. ANNEXURE

i am buy a flat now railway says it is mandatory take govt house otherwise railway will stop HRA

please see RBE No. 78/2003 for your query. Para 3 of the same reads as “In case at any point of time it transpires that some accommodation is likely to remain vacant/ un-occupied due to lack of demand, it should be made compulsory to submit applications for such types where there is surplus accommodation, and consequently, the employees entitled for such types would not be eligible to draw House Rent Allowance.”

I am entitled for Type-IV quarter , but i have been alloted type-III quarter, hence due to lack of space i have taken private accomodation near railway station. Will i be eligible for HRA or not.

What is the rule for getting HRA when a Rly. employee is unmarried and he has no dependable person

Pl give details about , when couple serving same station , if husband had quarter then wife is entitled for HRA or not
If husband is provided with Railway Qts. then wife will not be eligible for HRA, but if husband provided with private house on rant then wife will be eligible for HRA.
But Railway Board’s circular regarding subject matter is not available over website of RB or otherwise.
