Publicity Inspectors: Public Relations Training

Sub: Public relations-need for Training.

Ref:  Chairman, Railway Board’s D.O. letter No.88/PR/9/7 Pt.III, dated 22nd December, 1988 addressed to all the General Managers.

1. As approved by the Board, S.E., Western and Southern Railways have been nominated to organize P.R. Courses in the Zonal Training Schools for non-gazetted cadre in the P.R. Department. The duration of the course should be 45 days and be meant for Publicity Inspectors/ Sr.Publicity Inspectors/ Chief Publicity Inspectors on the Railways. As the staff on each of the Railway might not be adequate to organize the course independently, the following grouping has been done for the purpose of organization and participation in the course. 

(a)Zonal Training School, S.E. Railway – SINIEastern Railway, S.E. Railway, NE Railway, NF Railway, CLW and Metro.
(b)Zonal Training School, Western Railway, UdaipurCentral Rly., Western Rly., Northern Rly., DLW, RDSO and RCF.
(c)Zonal Training School, Southern Railway, TiruchiSouthern Railway, SC Railway, ICF and WAP.

2. The detailed contents of the course to be organized at these Schools should be worked out in coordination with CPROs, CPOs and Principal, Zonal Training Schools. The broad course contents will be issued by PR Directorate shortly.                   

During the course, these Inspectors should also be attached with leading newspapers/ T.V. stations/ All India Radio for two weeks for getting greater exposure to the media.    

3. A refresher course of the duration of 15 days may also be organized for the category of Inspectors who have already undergone some courses of similar nature. Every Inspector should undergo such a refresher course every third year.

4. It is clarified that these courses should be exclusively oriented to Public Relations Branch and not to staff involved in revenue earning commercial business in PR Units.
