RBE No. 149/2019: GDCE – General Departmental Competitive Examination – Language of Question Paper

No.E(NG)I/2018/PM 1/4, dated 09.09.2019

Sub: Language of Question Paper for GDCE – Clarification.
Ref: Railway Board’s letter of even number dated 21.08.2019 (RBE No. 139/2019).

Doubts have been raised as to whether the instructions contained in Board’s above letter direct that question papers for GDCE are to be set only in English and Hindi and not in any other language(s).
It is clarified that the letter referred to about does not restrict Railways from setting up the GDCE question papers in local/ regional language(s).
It may also be noted that with 100% objective type question paper now in vogue, the issue of written proficiency in a particular language should hardly be any more relevant.
