RBE No. 144/1988: Selection – Eligibility of Sick staff to Appear in Supplementary Selection

No.E(NG)I-87/PM1-18 (AIRF), dated 27.06.1988

Sub: Sick staff – Eligibility to appear in Supplementary Selection.

Attention is invited to Board’s letter No.E54 PM1/19/3, dated 04.04.1955 wherein Railways were inter alia advised that an eligible Railway servant remains absent in a Selection Test due to sickness may be considered by a Supplementary Selection Board provided his plea of sickness is supported by a certificate issued by a Railway Medical Authority.
It has been represented to this office that it is not possible for the employees who live beyond the jurisdiction limit of Railway doctor to produce certificate from Railway Medical Authorities to substantiate their sickness and such employees suffer disadvantage to appear in the supplementary selection.
The matter has been considered by the Board and it has been decided that in respect of such employees who reside beyond the jurisdiction of Railway Medical Officer, the medical certificate from private medical practitioners supporting the absence on medical ground during the course of the original selection may henceforth be accepted for allowing a chance to appear in the Supplementary Selection subject to the discretion of the controlling officer on merits of each case.
The above provision will be applicable only to the initial selection and not in Supplementary Selection.
