Retention: RBE No.118/1986: Railway Accommodation – Retirement – Death

Sub: Retention of railway accommodation on occurrence of various events.
1. As per para 2(ii) of Board’s letter of even number dated 27.08.1984, a Railway servant on retirement may be permitted to retain the railway accommodation for a period of 2 months on payment of normal rent and the next 6 months on educational or sickness accounts on payment of double the assessed rent or double the normal rent or 10% of the emoluments, whichever is highest and as per item No. 16 of the Annexure to Board’s letter of even No. dated 17.12.1983 in case of death, the family of a railway servant who dies while in service may be permitted to retain the railway quarter for a period of 4 months on payment of normal rent from the date immediately after the date of death of an employee.
2. The position has been reviewed by the Department of Railways and it has been decided that the permissible period for retention of railway accommodation in the following cases will be as under:
(i) Retirement: A Railway servant on retirement may be permitted to retain the railway accommodation for a period of 4 months on payment of normal rent and the next 4 months on education educational or sickness account on payment of double the assessed rent or double the normal rent or 10% of the emoluments whichever be the highest.
(ii) Death: The family of railway servant who dies while in service may be permitted to retain the railway quarter for a period of 6 months on normal payment of normal rent from the date immediately after the date of death of an employee.
3. It has also been decided that the retention of railway quarter for the prescribed period as indicated above may be allowed by the General Managers of the railway administration on receipt of requests therefor.
4. These order will be effective from 22nd Feb. 1986, relating to cases of retirement/ death, and issue with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate of the Deptt. of Railways and have the approval of the President.
