House Rent Allowance: RBE No.287/1987 – Classification of Jorhat City

Sub: Grant of House Rent Allowance – Classification of Jorhat City in Assam – Regarding.           

1. The question of classification of Jorhat in the State of Assam, where no decennial Census could be taken in 1981 due to disturbed conditions and therefore, no classification of the city could be done on that basis for payment of House Rent Allowance and Compensatory (City) Allowance to the Railway employees, has been under consideration of the Government for sometime past, on the basis of projected population of Jorhat municipal area as reconstituted vide Assam Government’s Notification No.MA/112/71/178, dated 27.07.1977, read with the Notification No.MA/112/71/224, dated 17.06.1978. The President is pleased to decide in consultation with the Staff Side of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery) that Jorhat in Assam, as reconstituted, may be included in the list of ‘C’ Class cities/ towns in Annexure II to this Ministry of Railways’ letter No.E(P&A)II/83/HRA/4, dated 11.03.1983 for the purpose of payment of House Rent Allowance to Railway employees posted there.

2. Grant of House Rent Allowance under these orders shall be subject to the terms and conditions laid down in this Ministry’s letter Ho.PC/66/HRA-1/21, dated 26.07.1967, as amended/ modified from time to time. 

3.     These orders shall take effect from 01.03.1981.       

4.     This issues with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.
