RBE No. 45/1986: Selection – Currency of Panel

Sub: Selection procedure – Currency of Panel.

1. In Board’s letter No.E(NG)I-80 PM1/88, dated 31.12.1980 it was inter alia clarified that currency of panel should continue to be two years or till a new panel is formed whichever is earlier.
2. Para 217 of IREM, however, stipulates that panel drawn by a Selection Board and approved by competent authority, shall be current for two years from the date of approval by the competent authority or still it is exhausted, whichever is earlier.
3. A question has been raised as to what is the correct position regarding the currency of a panel formed for promotion to a selection post. The matter has been considered and it has been decided that as provided in the Manual, the currency of the panel shall be two years from the date of approval by the competent authority or till it is exhausted whichever is earlier.
4. Past cases decided otherwise need not be reopened.
